About

Peter J. Richter

Peter John Richter is an American artist living and working in southern California who paints in a bold post-neo expressionistic style. His paintings are filled with biomorphic abstractions of former girlfriends, friends, freaks, and “monsters”. Often his work shows a gritty yet urbane humor. His
mediums include graphite, pastel, acrylic and oil.

Peter was born in Wisconsin but raised in California from an early age. He always showed an interest in art as a child and by his teen years had discovered the “hot-rod” or custom car culture and the work of Ed “Big Daddy” Roth & Robert Williams paintings. He also found street art/ graffiti art appealing for its flowing style and counter-culture status.

While he has expanded his palette over the years, his style and subject matter stand firmly fixed in what has been described as the “urban
macabre”. He continues to look at the things around him and paint it through his own filter.

Peter has shown his work around the world, been the subject of numerous one man shows, and has had the distinction of having work commissioned by private and public collectors including the United States Olympic
committee.
